NAMASTE! Welcome to Kumari's Cuisine. Nepali Cuisine is affected by the geographical position of Nepal, which is sandwiched between Northern India and Tibet. The culinary influences from these areas, together with the local regional preparations, create an interesting combination of textures and flavors. The result is a unique gastronomic experience.Kumari's Cuisine is named after the legendary Kumari Devi-The Living Goddess in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is also the name of the owner wife, Kumari Dong-Tamang who prepares tantalizing recipes for the restaurant and raises two young strong boys.
The best of this original cuisine has been expertly crafted by the Executive Chef, Prem Bahadur Tamang. Prem learned his craft in Nepal, and served as the chef for several large trekking and climbing expeditions. He tells many wonderful stories of Himalayan life and mountaineering adventures including climbing Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha). Being a Sherpa guide from 1984 to 1997 gave him a good feeling for western tastes and expectations. Prem is from the Tamang family group whose tradition is directly connected with Tibet and the Himalayas. He moved to the U.S. in 1998 and worked in various culinary positions including for the famous Little Nepal restaurant in San Francisco, where he was Executive Chef since 2003.
The staff members of kumari's Cuisine are a colorful blend of tradition and modernity. They serve in Nepali costumes and carefully explain the ingredients of the dishes and the culture of the Himalayas. It is not unusual for people dining at Kumari's Cuisine to be treated to a musical concert of drums and flutes adding to the exotic and wonderful tastes of Nepal and India.
